Tips for choosing the right camp for your child this summer

With school summer break getting closer, you may be looking for some ideas to keep your children entertained, but where do you start when choosing a camp?

Get them involved

Sit down with your child and explore what interests them. Having a say in the decision can make a big difference in their experience.

Look for special interests

There are camps for every interest. For those a little older and looking to develop their creative skills take a look at Young Artist Development↗, and Creative Word↗. For those looking for some unique sports, there’s dodgeball↗, skateboarding↗, and touch football↗!

Location

Decide what areas of the city↗ you are happy to travel to. Mark camps in those areas before offering a selection to your child. If you need extended pre- and post-camp care check to see if it’s available at the location of your choice. Also, if time is tight, consider virtual options↗ to entertain your children at home.

Support options

Finances can play a part when choosing camps, and you will find many price points. The City of Ottawa offers payment plans, so you won’t be charged until 30 days before camp starts.  For those looking for some financial assistance take a look at the Ottawa Hand in Hand↗ program.

Register

City of Ottawa camps offer a wide variety of camps across the city. Registration is open at register.ottawa.ca↗

Withdrawals for summer camps are required 30 days prior to the summer camp start date. In addition, payments will only be applied to your credit card 30 days before the start date of each registered camp.
