Update: Greenbank Road Realignment and Southwest Transitway

The City is undertaking the design of a new 4-lane arterial roadway with 2-lane segregated median Bus Rapid Transit along the realigned Greenbank Road corridor. This project includes a new bridge over the Jock River, segregated cycling/pedestrian facilities, construction of 20 new protected intersections, a new Park and Ride facility, and new watermains and sewers. This project will provide a key transportation link for the fast-growing community of Barrhaven South.

The project limits extend from Marketplace Avenue/Chapman Mills Drive to Barnsdale Road.

The current project schedule is as follows:

  • Completion of detailed design: February 2026.

  • Start of phase 1 construction: Spring 2026.

Advanced hydro relocation

Hydro Ottawa, in conjunction with the City of Ottawa, will be completing advanced relocation of hydro infrastructure within the new Greenbank corridor between 200 metres south of Cambrian Road and Riverboat Heights, as shown below. Some short-duration lane closures on Cambrian Road may be required.

The utility work will be undertaken this fall and is expected to be completed by mid January 2026. The purpose of this work is to relocate both underground and aerial utilities in support of the Greenbank Realignment Project, scheduled to begin construction in 2026.

Traffic impacts

To accommodate the installation of the power line, Hydro Ottawa may need to implement temporary lane reductions on Cambrian Road during off peak hours.
